About the Session:
Every nonprofit board eventually asks the same questions:
Do we have enough in reserves?
Are we taking the right amount of risk?
Are we making the best use of our assets?
This session moves the reserve conversation beyond rules of thumb like the “3-6 month” standard, offering a purpose-driven framework for segmenting reserves by objective and time horizon, and using peer benchmarking data (via Raffa’s Study on Nonprofit Investing dashboard) as helpful context rather than a prescription to copy.
Attendees will also come away with topics for discussion to strengthen governance and oversight of investment and reserve decisions.
Learning Objectives:
- Rethink the investment reserves in a way that aligns with the organization’s financial realities, risks, and goals.
- Develop a framework for setting reserve strategies, evaluating policies, engaging with volunteer boards, and using peer benchmarks thoughtfully to inform decisions.
Who Should Attend:
CEOs, CFOs, COOs, Nonprofit Board members, including members of the Investment, Audit, and Finance committees
